Wow, it’s been a while since i posted any movie review…but I guess Scott Pilgrim def worth the hello :).  Scott is not an average Hollywood movie, nor typical teenage one. The way Scott represented is more like a retro-pop movie combine with 8-bit atmosphere. Good? absolutely! For me who always had a thing for anything ‘Japan’, ‘retro’, ‘game’ & ‘comic’, Scott is a new breathe. Realize that Scott Pilgrim vs The World is actually based on a cult comic, no wonder it has a strong comic-ish ambiance in it. The dialogue itself is very fun, tentative to follow. sometimes sarcastic, smart or even way out of the context.

Canadian Cartoonist Brian Lee O’Malley based his award-winning story on his own love drama with his girlfriend (now wife), fellow comic writer/illustrator Hope Larson who dated three different guys named Matthew at the time, which inspired the invention of the league of Matthews. With that, and the idea of bringing out a Street Fighter game into a real-life battle, Scott Pilgrim out to be the best musical-fighting-comic style movie Hollywood ever produced. Oh and don’t forget its epic tagline, def describe itself precisely: an epic of epic epicness.

Michael Cera, through Scott, made a statement to further strengthen his image as a neo-geek idol. In this movie, Scott Pilgrim is a 23 years old who lives in the big city with his gay roommate, plays melody in a band called Sex-Bob-Omb. One day he cross-path with his dreamlove, Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead). But to be able to win Ramona entirely, he has to defeat her seven evil ex-boyfriends. The battle goes far beyond typical. Either with music or physical, each of hatred ex-boyfriends turns into coins when they’re defeated. Very much like viewing old video game playland such as Super Mario Bros or Zelda (I love Nintendo :p). Each of the ex-boyfriends character is built over dramatic or metaphoric basis, creating unique yet strong characters. Yes, I think Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World may possibly creating new wave in young movie industry.
