June 24, 2012…wind blowing hard especially around Balai Kota area. Where Storm Troopers and people seeking for the Force gather in an event called Star Wars Day Bandung (SWDBDG). Held in Gedung Indonesia Menggugat, another memento from Soekarno era. SWDBDG transform the old ambiance into somewhat outer-space under the Force’s atmosphere.
Star Wars Day Bandung is an event dedicated for commemorating 35th years of Star Wars. This event is the first Star Wars Day being held in Indonesia, also the biggest. Featuring exactly 35 artists and their Star Wars related artworks, SWDBDG also displaying tons of Star Wars related items including action figure, replica, diorama and other cool stuff.
That’s not all, for what cool is an event without games? And this one has many! From the infamous Lighsaber Battle to Bounty Hunter Games. Each fan boy couldn’t be more connected to their favorite flick of the decade. Err..talking about flick, there’s also complete Star Wars movie screening during the event. Yep, the Force is strrrong with this one 😉
What? You ain’t feeling the Force yet? Then probably it’s time to move on the next wing. Gedung Indonesia Menggugat right-wing is dedicated to shop-n-adopt any Star Wars toys & merchandise. Still got a room for Princess Leia, it’s time to bring her home!
The event itself starts from early 10 AM to late night at 9. With visitors coming from around the city and its sister Jakarta, SWDBDG manage to gather more than 1000 Jedi Fans in a day..Wow! Spotted among fans are several celebrities such as Dennis Adhiswara who then join the Lightsaber Battle, Sissy Priscilla, Dinda Kanya and many others. I myself join the crowd at 1 PM and there’s already high-crowd indoor. While outdoor saved for those who wanna try swinging saber and showcasing their Star Wars costume. I must say, I’m happy being there 😀
Now let’s move to where SWDBDG first being talked about. Yup, to the people behind it. The succesful event is presented by Order 66 Outpost Bandung, The ultimate toy museum Zero Toys, My Tummy Toys, Gusto Sign and last but not least, Maicih! They even print limited edition packaging for SWDBDG, and a cool one too!
Anyway, SWDBDG is such a great event! Can’t wait for the next Star Wars Day. Thank you so much, guys. May the force be with you all 🙂
